Memories of St. Paul’s

“I remember being so pleased to be able to buy plants at the spring fundraiser for the church. This was before I attended. One day as I was out walking the dog I saw the sign at the entrance to the church about the ladies Bible study. I attended that for a few years before I started attending church. I enjoyed meeting together with the ladies group studying the Bible and praying together to share needs and thanksgiving. Since I started regularly attending I have helped with some of the fundraising activities that the Jean Gordon Society have done. I also sang in the choir which was an activity that filled me with joy. Even though I can no longer sing in the choir I thoroughly enjoy listening and harmonizing in the congregation as we praise the Lord together.”

“In 2003 we moved from Toronto to our Burlington Townhouse.  I had been attending the Don Mills United Church. Before that in the U.K., from 1950 I went to “All Souls” Church, London. The Minister was the well Known John Stott, friend of Billy Graham.  St. Paul’s was just a 10 minute walk from our new home. I liked it because everyone was very friendly, there were also some English and Scottish people, so I felt quite at home.
I joined the Jean Gordon Ladies group and helped with Turkey Pies. It was a fundraiser for charities and St. Paul’s. I helped the group’s Treasurer, being a co-signer for cheques. I helped a little with Sunday School and the Auction and sometimes I read the Scripture. John usually came to St. Paul’s with me. We both felt comfort & enrichment from the fellowship and spiritual leadership. We enjoyed anniversary dinners, and recall once joining the congregation at a picnic service and lunch at the Marshall’s farm.
I made friendships and had enormous love and support when John was ill during COVID and when he died July 8, 2022.”

“Jason was recollecting the Mother’s Day dinner the men and the youth group put together years ago.  Jason had this neat memory about one of the elders, being very concerned that we didn’t have a liquor licence.  The ‘wine’ bottles with juice we made, obviously looked very ‘real’.”

Friendly Conversation

“On moving to Burlington, my husband Bill and I were looking for a new church home.  As we walked into St. Paul’s we weren’t sure where to sit, but spied an empty pew on the right-hand side near the front.  It was too near the front, but there didn’t seem to be another spot!  So we settled ourselves in and then realized that people around us were smiling at us.  Right away we felt at home.”
